Examinations
Veterinary examinations are essential, proactive health checkups—often called wellness exams—designed to detect illnesses early, prevent diseases through vaccinations and parasite control, and manage a pet’s long-term health. These "nose-to-tail" assessments allow veterinarians to identify subtle, early signs of issues before they become serious or costly. Examinations are also vital to diagnosing and treating disease in both small and large animals.
Diagnostics and Laboratory
Diagnostics and laboratories in veterinary medicine are essential for accurately diagnosing illnesses, monitoring chronic conditions, guiding treatment decisions, and conducting disease surveillance in animals. They provide critical data through blood tests, imaging, and pathology to ensure effective care, prevent disease, and manage public health risks.
Surgery
Surgery in veterinary medicine is performed to diagnose, treat, or prevent health conditions, with the primary goal of improving or saving an animal's life, relieving pain, and enhancing their overall quality of life. Common purposes include repairing injuries (soft tissue injuries and fractures), removing tumors, managing diseases (bladder stones, foreign bodies), and performing spays/neuters/castrations.
Dentistry
Veterinary dentistry aims to prevent, diagnose, and treat oral diseases, alleviating pain and improving the overall health, function, and quality of life for animals. It involves professional cleaning, periodontal care, tooth extractions, and advanced procedures like root canals or fracture repairs to manage conditions like periodontal disease, which can affect systemic health (e.g., heart, kidneys). In equine patients, dental care is essential to maintaining a healthy weight and alleviating oral pain.
Ultrasound
Ultrasounds are non-invasive, radiation-free diagnostic tools used to evaluate soft tissue, organs, and blood flow in real-time. They are crucial for diagnosing abdominal disease, heart conditions (echocardiography), guiding biopsies, monitoring pregnancy, and detecting tumors or foreign bodies.
Radiology
Radiology (x-rays), in veterinary medicine is crucial for visualizing skeletal and internal structures to diagnose, treat, and monitor illnesses or injuries in animals. It enables early detection of conditions—such as causes of lameness in both large and small animals, fractures, cancer, heart disease, or foreign object ingestion—that are invisible during physical exams.
